4 lakh commuters took the Metro in two weeks

MUMBAI: The Metro ridership in the city crossed the four-lakh mark for the first time on Saturday after it started commercial operations two weeks ago.

The trend continued on Sunday too as by 5.30pm around four lakh commuters had used the Metro system on the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar line.

Mumbai Metro One Private Ltd (MMOPL) spokesperson said, “On Saturday, the system crossed the 4.3-lakh mark. On Sunday, we expect the traffic to increase significantly to 4. 5 lakh.” The system is designed to handle seven lakh commuters per day. For 30 days, MMOPL has introduced a promotional fare of Rs 10 irrespective of destinations. This weekend, MMOPL also introduced the round-up ticket for the first time to ensure better crowd management.

The free rides for the kids this weekend has shown a good response as around 1.5 lakh children enjoyed the Metro ride as to compared to 1.3 lakh last weekend. More info
