MUMBAI: Thursday onwards, the railways will introduce mobile ticketing system for suburban trains at eight more stations—Vashi on Harbour line, Thane, Kalyan and CST on the Main line and Borivli, Andheri, Mumbai Central and Churchgate on the Western line.
The system was launched by railway minister Suresh Prabhu at Dadar on Saturday. UTS, the mobile app, has been downloaded by nearly 1,500 users with close to 100 tickets being booked using it. Commuters have, however, demanded online recharging of the railway (R) wallet, which is at present available only at ticket windows. An official said, “We are working in that direction.”
At present, the mobile app can be used to book tickets using money from the R-wallet. The user receives a pin code, which can be keyed in at an ATVM machine to get a ticket. More info
