MUMBAI: The inaugural Airbus 380 commercial passenger operation at the city airport on Friday took place without an glitches, with almost all the 471 seats on the Singapore Airlines flight full.
The world’s biggest commercial double-decker aircraft touched down at Mumbai airport at 9.49 pm, six minutes ahead of its scheduled arrival time of 9.55pm. About 30 minutes before the landing, excitement built up in the air traffic control tower when the commander of the flight established contact with the controller on duty and identified his aircraft as “Singapore 424 Super”. While Boeing 747 jumbo jet pilots use the word “heavy” in their call sign, A380s are identified as “super”.
After the A380 docked at terminal 2, the airport’s specially installed two tier aerobridge was used, for the first time, for passengers to disembark from the two levels of the aircraft. More info
