Metro projects: Maharashtra ropes in former DMRC chief as advisor

Having set a steep target of rolling out Metro rail corridors in all major cities of the state, the Maharashtra government has roped in E Sreedharan, former Delhi Metro chief, to step in as an advisor to the government on various issues related to the Metro works.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Sreedharan on Monday morning to discuss the state’s various Metro projects, and bring him in as an advisor in the planning and implementation process.

A senior state government official, who did not wish to be named, said, “The government has formally brought him in to advise on various Metro projects planned for the state. He will not be involved with the detailed planning, execution and review of Metro rail works on a regular basis, but he will advise us on any issues or technical hurdles that government authorities may approach him with from time to time.” Sreedharan, often referred to as the ‘Metro man,’ has a vast experience and expertise in executing Metro rail projects as the former head of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

The official added that Sreedharan’s involvement in Metro projects in Maharashtra would be similar to his arrangement as advisor for Metro rail works in various cities across the country such as Lucknow, Vijaywada, Vizag, Hyderabad and so on. More info
