BANGALORE: BMRC is doing its bit to promote Kannada through Metro Rail. The announcements at stations and on trains are usually made in English, Hindi and Kannada.

But from Friday, BMRC started testing more announcements in Kannada, as a result of which Hindi announcements were not made many times on the northern corridor between Sampige Road and Peenya on Friday.

Pradeep Singh Kharola, MD, BMRC, told STOI, “There is a conscious effort to make Kannada announcements more frequent and tests are being done. It could have happened during those tests that the Hindi announcements were skipped.

But we’ll assist passengers in all the three languages.” He said the system will be in place in a few days but Kannada will be repeated more frequently. More info
