Mumbai-based firm wins bid for Ahmedabad metro construction

Mumbai-based J Kumar Infraprojects Ltd has been selected to build the first six kilometres of the Rs 10,700 crore Ahmedabad Metrorail Project that was conceived about a decade ago.

The 35-year-old firm emerged as the lowest bidder for construction of viaducts on the six kilometre-long route – Vastral Gam to Apparel Park – that is part of the 20.53 kilometre East West Corridor (Thaltej Gam to Vastral Gam). The total length of the proposed metro is about 37.76 kilometres.

“About 29 tenders were purchased, nine filled up and submitted the tenders, only four qualified and only one has been selected. With the construction work being awarded we expect work to begin by the last week of February and completed within 27 months,” said a senior official of the Metro-Link Express for Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad (MEGA) Company Ltd, which is in the process of being converted into a jointly-owned company where 50:50 participation from Centre and state government.
