In an effort to integrate bus services with the upcoming Metro 3 line (Colaba-Bandra-Seepz), the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking and the city’s urban planning body have proposed to upgrade its infrastructure at three locations in the city.

This includes remodelling of the BEST power substation at Hutatma Chowk, in order to provide entry and exits for the metro station planned at DN Road.

The proposal also includes allowing entry and exit points for commuters using the Metro at Ambika mills bus station near Nehru Science Centre in Worli and redevelopment of theplot at Seepz Bus station.

For commuters, this means better integration of BEST bus services and Metro line 3, once it is operational. As things stand, integration of public transport services is found lacking, thereby causing inconvenience to commuters.

“Currently, we don’t have the efficient integration of Metro and BEST bus services, as the required space for bus operations was not accounted for at the planning stage. However, these precautions are being taken at planning stage itself for the Metro 3 line,” said OP Gupta, BEST general manager. More info
