Mumbai Metro brought under purview of RTI Act

Calling the Metro an important public service, the Maharashtra Information Commission Thursday ruled that the Reliance Infrastructure-led Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) was a public body and brought it under the purview of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

The order follows former chief information commissioner Shailesh Gandhi’s complaint after MMOPL did not provide him information sought under the RTI Act.

In its order, the commission said, “Considering the fact that Metro is providing an important public service, under the control and with the financial support of the government, the commission concludes that it is a public authority and is amenable to the RTI Act, 2005.” More info
