Mumbai metro loses nearly 40,000 passengers everyday

MUMBAI: Seven months after the withdrawal of the Rs 10 invitation fare and implementation of a graded fare structure, the daily passenger traffic on the Metro is still down by 14% or 40,000 passengers per day.

When the fare hike took effect in January, the passenger traffic dipped to 1.7 lakh passengers per day or 53 lakh ridership per month as against 2.9 lakh passengers per day prior to the fare hike.

Between February to May it fluctuated between 2.2 lakh to 2.3 lakh passengers per day. In June it went up marginally to 2.4 lakh and in July it reached 2.5 lakh passengers per day. More info
