Mumbai Metro : Separate coach for women

The Metro has been in the news for the longest time—earlier for the right reasons, but in the recent past for all the wrong reasons. To start with, recently, a female commuter was allegedly harassed by a man on the Ghatkopar to D.N. Nagar route.

The man allegedly made lewd comments and gestures at her. This incident has been received with rage all over social media, where other women commuters have shared their experiences as well.

This incident sparked a debate on whether there should be a separate coach for female commuters. Many women feel that during the rush hour, some men take advantage of the crowd and touch them inappropriately, though not all are reported. Well, the good news is that Metro has announced: starting today, one coach will be reserved only for women.

Jyoti Kale, a daily commuter shares, “Though I have never experienced any harassment myself, I strongly feel that a separate ladies compartment was necessary. In a crowded coach, it is a bit intimidating to be around men. This announcement is a welcome decision.” More info
