Mumbai Metro to start operation next month

MUMBAI: The Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro is ready to roll out next month—the city’s next mega project after the Sahar Elevated corridor, monorail and Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road was thrown open this year.

The opening of the route is expected to bring down pressure on the suburban railway system, besides reducing vehicular congestion on east-west corridors.

Mumbai Metro has missed deadlines but RInfra promoted Mumbai Metro One Private Ltd (MMOPL) has claimed that its execution record is better than all other projects implemented in the city. MMOPL said, “We can claim that Mumbai Metro is the fastest completed infrastructure project in Mumbai.”

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CRS) has already begun carrying out an inspection of the VAG corridor. A source said, “The inspection is likely to be complete by April 28. The project can be opened by May, provided there are no adverse comments from the CRMS.” More info
