INDIA: Tendering is underway for works on the first line of a planned 106 km metro network in Navi Mumbai, a satellite new city near Mumbai.
Louis Berger and Balaji Rail Road Systems are general consultants for the project, which is managed by Maharashtra state agency City & Industrial Development Corp.
Spanish contractor San José Constructora is to design and build five of the 10 stations, at Central Park, Pethpada, Sector 34, Panchanand and Pendhar.
Cidco has called tenders for the supply of six four-car 1435 mm gauge trainsets, railway systems and fare collection equipment, with a view to awarding contracts by December.
Two further phases of Line 2 running 8·2 km from Khandeshwar to Taloja MIDC with seven stations and 2·2 km from Taloja MIDC to Pendhar are planned for completion within five years, and an extension to the city’s proposed airport is planned. More info
