New 4-level airport terminal now open. Better leave home well before time

As authorities at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport gear up for the opening of Terminal 2 on Wednesday, airlines have been sending out alerts to  passengers  to reach the airport well before their scheduled departure time.

The reason for sending out these alerts is that airlines and the airline officials apprehend that the shifting of operations to the new terminal 2 from the present one  is bound to face its share of teething troubles. They anticipate that  it will create a lot of confusion among passengers.

“Also , the inauguration of the elevated road leading to T2 by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan is scheduled for Wednesday morning. This is very likely to cause some traffic jam along the Western Express Highway,” said an airport official, explaining the reason for which airlines have been told to communicate the same to their passengers.

Besides, airport authorities  said that they also apprehend some problem due to an agitations scheduled for Wednesday by the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. The party has called for a state-wide protest against the collection of toll charges.

The airport official said that adequate signage and additional personnel will be deployed to direct passengers and vehicles to ensure smooth movement. More info
