No change in Mumbai Metro fare

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metro on Tuesday informed the Bombay high court that it would continue the existing metro rail fare till December 31, 2014 and the court directed the Central government to constitute the fare fixation committee no later than November 30.

The Chief Justice Mohit Shah also asked the Central government why had it not yet set up the committee despite earlier court orders to expedite its formation.

The court observed that if no such committee is formed soon by the government, the court may have to consider whether or not to permit MMOPL a ‘certain increase’ in the fare.

Reliance and Maharashtra government’s infrastructure planning agency MMRDA, are part of the consortium that runs the Mumbai Metro. MMRDA had questioned the “high” fare set by MMOPL on May 29. More info
