Now, Hinjewadi-Mumbai bus service

PUNE: The Vallabhnagar bus depot of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC or ST) in Pimpri has started a weekend bus service between Hinjewadi and Mumbai for IT professionals working in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park on a pilot basis.

The service may turn into a full-fledged service if there is adequate demand.

TOI has been consistently reporting on how unsafe it is to hitch a ride from Hinjewadi and surrounding areas. There have been several instances when cab drivers offer to drop gullible IT employees to Mumbai or their homes and rob them on the way.

Anil Bhise, manager of the Vallabhnagar bus depot, said, “We started the pilot bus service with two semi-luxury buses on June 26 which had 80% occupancy. IT professionals have holidays on weekends and many of them go to Mumbai on Friday evening by going to Wakad on Katraj-Dehu Road bypass to catch private buses or cabs. Besides the long waiting hours for a journey, there have been cases of them getting robbed by people offering them a lift to Mumbai.” More info
