MUMBAI: BJP is finding itself increasingly isolated on the issue of constructing a shed in Aarey Colony for Metro III .
The MMRDA has proposed to transplant 2,044 trees and hack 254. But activists say transplantation drives mostly fail. The civic body’s draft Development Plan 2034 intends to exploit 1,009 hectares in the no-development zone.
On Friday, Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray visited the picnic spot and said that Metro III should be scrapped if it adversely affects the environment. Along with civic groups, Congress and NCP have voiced their opposition to construction inside the green lung.
BJP has not yet decided whether or not to support the proposed Metro shed. City BJP chief Ashish Shelar said chief minister Devendra Fadnavis would take the final call on the issue. More info
