The Metro service in India’s commercial capital will commence this fiscal with the completion of more than 95 percent of its civil construction, Reliance Infrastructure Chairman Anil Ambani said in Mumbai on Tuesday. Addressing the annual general meeting of the company, he said 700,000 passengers will be able to travel in Mumbai Metro, cutting the commute time from what it takes 90 minutes now with the existing modes of travel to under 20 minutes.

Hunt on for experts to handle state’s Metro projects

The Maharashtra government has begun its hunt for an expert to take care of Metro rail projects in Mumbai and other metropolis in the state. Recently at a meeting with urban development (UD) officials, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan directed UD officials to look for expertise for Metro projects, rather relying on bureaucrats for monitoring such important projects.

Nod for Metro-I work on part of temple land

"We expect the collector's office to hand over the land in a month's time,'' said MMRDA officials working on the project. They said the temple will not need to be shifted, only a part of the premises will have to move. Mumbai Metro's first line on Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar is being built by a special purpose vehicle - Mumbai Metro One - owned by Reliance Infra, the MMRDA and a French multinational, Veolia.
