The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project that connects Sewri and Nhava port in Mumbai, is likely to get a boost as the World Bank has shown keen interest in funding the said project.
First it was December 2010, then June 2011 and now the Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) claims that Mumbaiites will be able to ride in the metro in March 2012. It comes with a rider though. Only 3 km of the 11.07-km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro line is expected to be complete by March next year.
MMRDA officials said they were interested in getting the project off the ground and have already commissioned a detailed study of the third metro line which will be fully underground. The study will be done by RITES-the consultancy arm of the Indian Railways.
Officials say this is because Western railway has given them permission for only 57 4-hour blocks instead of the 127 they need to build bridge over rail lines at Andheri The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's (MMRDA) claim of finishing the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar (VAG) corridor, or the first line, of the Metro by March 2012 has come to naught.
It is thought the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) ‘will soon accept the request’ to fund the $2.26 billion Line 3 of the Mumbai Metro rail network. JICA is currently working on finalising concessional financing for the third line.
A worker at the Metro site in Andheri (W) died on Thursday after he slipped and fell off a beam. He succumbed to injuries at a hospital. The incident comes within six days of an accident at a monorail site in Chembur where two labourers were killed late in the night.
