On Sunday, more than 700 people, including members of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Save Aarey Milk Colony, SPROUTS Environmental Trust, NGO Vanashakti, Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW) and local tribal groups participated in a silent protest march against the Metro car depot
Even as the city’s first Metro runs over Mumbai in a closed-door, air-conditioned environment, a world apart from the bustling and chaotic life outside, the metropolis itself comes alive on the walls of its stations through some very quirky murals.
As authorities at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport gear up for the opening of Terminal 2 on Wednesday, airlines have been sending out alerts to passengers to reach the airport well before their scheduled departure time.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority's illjudged decision to not connect the airport with the Metro in the project's first phase has come back to bite it. As it now turns out, the airport may not get the much-needed connectivity till at least 2019. In a recently released "modified interim development plan" for the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA), the MMRDA itself laments the absence of a dedicated transport system to and from the airport.
The official said they were also planning a Metro railway line from Lokhandwala to SEEPZ and Kanjurmarg, to link the eastern and western suburbs. Earlier, the 13.14km route was to be taken up as part of the Mono railway master plan, but the MMRDA has decided to put the development of more Mono railway corridors on the backburner till the first 19.22-km Chembur-Wadala-Jacob Circle route, work on which is on, is commissioned and run.
