Work on Mumbai Metro-III may begin by December

MUMBAI: The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) will award civil work worth Rs11,000 crore for the 32.5km Colaba-Bandra-Seepz corridor in September.

The underground corridor will provide Metro connectivity to the western suburbs, island city and the international airport.

MMRC managing director Ashwini Bhide said, “We will carry out a technical evaluation by mid-September and then award work orders before the end of that month.”

Thirty-one bids from nine consortia have been received by the MMRC for the seven packages. MMRC plans to complete the project by 2019.

Work on the ground is expected to begin in December or January 2016.

Bhide said, “The consultant to prepare rehabilitation of project-affected persons (PAPs) in Girgaum and Kalbadevi will be in place in 15 days. We hope to begin work on the PAPs in four months.”

Twenty-six buildings, with 737 families, will be affected by the Metro-III project. The consultant will prepare a comprehensive rehabilitation plan after studying policies, rule and regulations of the government and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. More info
